Participating in the 2020 Early Literacy Firefly Award is one way your little one can stay engaged with their local library and learn big lessons.
Kids can learn that their vote counts too! This is the sixth year of the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award. The award gives children across Indiana a chance to vote for their favorite reads. Last year, over 5,400 children ages 9-5 voted from 56 Indiana counties. There’s a Monster in Your Book garnered over 40% of the vote, making it a landslide victory.
This year, due to the current health crisis, the Indiana Center for the Book is opening up remote voting for the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award. Parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 who live in Indiana are invited to experience the five nominated titles in person or through video and then assist their children in voting on their favorite.
How to Access the Books and Vote
The good news is that even though many children can’t access the print books this year, all nominated books are available in video format. You can watch the videos with your child by clicking on each title below.
Tip: When watching the videos, pause them and ask your child questions about the book. Discuss which book is your child’s favorite by asking them to rank each book as you watch the videos.
