  • Indiana’s Build, Learn, Grow program is extending scholarships for qualified families through March 2022!

    When families are working and kids are learning, Indiana’s future is brighter. With summer officially here, Indiana wants to make sure children from birth to age 12 are engaged in high-quality early learning and education opportunities.

    Families that work in essential businesses are eligible to receive scholarships toward their children’s early care and education, summer learning or out-of-school care.

Eligibility

For families that work in essential businesses, a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship will cover up to 80% of your child care costs for kids age 0-12. 

Indiana families must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship.

  • One adult in the household must work in an essential business such as health care, human services, education, retail, restaurant and food service, essential infrastructure, media, manufacturing and logistics, religious and charitable organizations and many others.   • The scholarship amount is based on a family’s gross monthly income as follows.

Application Steps

STEP 1
Review the eligibility requirements listed above. One adult in the household must work in an essential business.

STEP 2
Fill out the application online and print it or print the application and fill it out by hand. Providers will also have hard copies of the form available for completion. Haz clic AQUÍ para la solicitud en español.

STEP 3
Gather and complete necessary income documents as outlined on the application. If necessary, complete the income verification form. Haz clic AQUÍ para la forma en español.

STEP 4
Take the printed application and income verification documents to your provider. The program will then enroll your child and collect the scholarship on your behalf.

Build, Learn, Grow scholarships are accepted by participating early care and education, summer learning and out-of-school time programs across Indiana.  Participating providers are enrolling now.

  • What is the Build, Learn, Grow program?

    Indiana’s Build, Learn, Grow program helps families connect to the care and education support their children need – building reliable child care infrastructure, creating new learning opportunities for young students, and helping our communities grow. The Build, Learn, Grow program offers families that work in essential businesses scholarships toward their children’s early care and education, summer learning or out-of-school time care.

  • Who qualifies for a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship?

    To qualify for a scholarship, at least one adult in the household must work in an essential business and enroll their child in early childhood education, summer learning or out-of-school time care. Essential businesses include health care, human services, education, retail, restaurant and food service, essential infrastructure, media, manufacturing and logistics, religious and charitable organizations and many others.   • How does a family calculate their income eligibility?

    Scholarship amounts are based on total monthly family income before taxes and deductions. View this chart to calculate your family’s income eligibility based on family size.

  • How many scholarships are available?

    The Indiana Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning — in partnership with Early Learning Indiana, the Indiana Afterschool Network and SPARK Learning Lab — is offering 50,000 Build, Learn, Grow scholarships to Hoosier working families.

  • How many scholarships can a family receive?

    A family can receive one scholarship per child.

  • What do scholarships cover?

    Scholarships cover up to 80% of a child’s tuition at an eligible early care and education program, summer program or before- or after-school program, from May 2021-March 2022.

  • What if a family member is not classified as an essential worker?

    The Build, Learn, Grow Scholarship Fund is specifically for families of essential workers. Only one family member must work in an essential business to qualify. There are other resources and supports available for those who do not work in essential businesses. Click here for more information.

  • How does a family receive a scholarship?

    Eligible families should complete the Build, Learn, Grow scholarship application found HERE and then print and deliver it with pay stubs or an income verification form (found here, haz clic AQUÍ para la forma en español) to their child’s program. From there, the program will collect the scholarship on a family’s behalf. Providers will also have hard copies of the form available for completion.

  • Which early care and education, summer learning and out-of-school time programs accept the scholarships?

    Build, Learn, Grow scholarships are accepted by participating early care and education, summer learning and out-of-school time programs across the state. Participating programs will be listed here as they register.

  • How long does the Build, Learn, Grow program run?

    Build, Learn, Grow scholarships run from May 2021-March 2022.

  • Do families that already enrolled in early care and education programs and meet eligibility criteria qualify?

    Yes, families already enrolled in early care and education programs qualify as long as at least one family member is an essential worker.

  • Do both parents and/or guardians have to be essential workers to qualify?

    Only one family member needs to work in an essential business for the family to be eligible for Build, Learn, Grow scholarships.

  • What does a family have to provide with their application to provide income eligibility?

    After submitting an application, the family must either provide pay stubs or an income verification form (found here, haz clic AQUÍ para la forma en español) to show their family’s income. Families should then submit both forms to their child care provider.

  • What if my family’s income is less than 128% of Federal Poverty Level?

    If your family’s income is below 128% of Federal Poverty Level, you should qualify for Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) assistance. To apply for CCDF assistance, visit Early Ed Connect to start your application.
