  • When families are working and kids are learning, Indiana’s future is brighter. To help more children access high-quality early care and educational opportunities, the Indiana Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning — in partnership with Early Learning Indiana, the Indiana Afterschool Network and SPARK Learning Lab — has created the Build, Learn, Grow scholarship fund.

    Families of essential workers with qualifying income are eligible to receive scholarships toward their children’s early care and education, summer learning or out-of-school care.

Eligibility

For families classified as essential workers, a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship will cover 80% of your child care costs for kids up to age 12.

Indiana families must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship.

  • A family member qualifies as an essential worker, meaning they work in healthcare and public health operations, human services operations, essential governmental functions, essential infrastructure, retail businesses, restaurants or food service, education, charitable and religious entities, media and many other industries such as those found HERE.
  • Family's gross monthly income (before taxes and any other deductions) is between 128%-250% of Federal Poverty Level on the Build, Learn, Grow Income Eligibility chart below.

Application

To receive a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship, families should complete the application found below and submit it along with pay stubs (or attestation form) to their early care and education program, summer learning or out-of-school care program.

The program will then enroll your child and collect the scholarship on your behalf.

  • What is the Build, Learn, Grow program?

    Indiana’s new Build, Learn, Grow program helps families connect to the care and education support their children need – building reliable child care infrastructure, creating new learning opportunities for young students, and helping our communities grow. The Build, Learn, Grow program offers Hoosier families of essential workers scholarships toward their children’s early care and education, summer learning or out-of-school time care.

  • Who qualifies for a Build, Learn, Grow scholarship?

    To qualify for a scholarship, a family member must be an essential worker, have total family monthly income between 128%-250% of Federal Poverty Level and enroll their child in early childhood education, summer learning or out-of-school time care.   • How does a family calculate their income eligibility?

  • How many scholarships are available?

    The Indiana Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning — in partnership with Early Learning Indiana, the Indiana Afterschool Network and SPARK Learning Lab — is offering 50,000 Build, Learn, Grow scholarships to Hoosier working families.

  • How many scholarships can a family receive?

    A family can receive one scholarship per child.

  • What if a family member is not classified as an essential worker?

    The Build, Learn, Grow Scholarship Fund is specifically for families of essential workers. There are other resources and supports available for non-essential worker families. Click here for more information.

  • How does a family receive a scholarship?

    Eligible families should complete the Build, Learn, Grow scholarship application found HERE and then email it or print and submit it to their child’s program. From there, the program will collect the scholarship on a family’s behalf.

  • Which early care and education, summer learning and out-of-school time programs accept the scholarships?

    Build, Learn, Grow scholarships are accepted by participating early care and education, summer learning and out-of-school time programs across the state. Use the map here to locate a participating program.

  • What are the participating early childhood or out-of-school program’s eligibility requirements?

    To be able to collect Build, Learn, Grow scholarships, programs must be CCDF eligible, complete the Build, Learn, Grow informational session and submit their Build, Learn, Grow program consent form.

  • How will programs claim the family scholarships?

    Programs will claim family scholarships by submitting claim forms after collecting a family’s application and verifying their eligibility.
